Given that the release date is not final, I only worry about all the games that need to be published earlier than GTA6, because they might get enforced crunch mode.
I echo the sentiment of not being the demographic for this game but I recognize this game drives the industry forward with the technology and mechanics they implement so I look forward to it's release even if I know I won't play it haha
I feel like my audience for this Substack fits in the same camp as me: "I'm curious about this game, I may play it when it comes out, but I'm not chomping at the bit for it".
It's weird. There's so much hype for GTA 6, but I haven't read anything anywhere about people being disappointed that it just got moved back another 6 months?
I've only played GTA III and... I dunno... I don't like playing as a criminal and doing horrible things to people. Even if said "people" are just a series of 1s and 0s.
I know the games are well made, but I still find the series' insane popularity baffling.
I'm also not GTA's biggest fan either. I've played all of them, and they are very well made games, and I can appreciate them from that front. I think the satire is often on point for its time. It's a bit ham-fisted now, 10 years is a long time.
But I can't deny that it moves the needle like no other game. But I really want to see how it handles its 'maturity'? Like this is a game series that evolved from having a sex mini-game to now having getting its first playable woman character? And will its approach polarise its core audience?
Good point about the shift in gender perspective potentially polarizing GTA’s core audience. I wouldn’t be surprised if the game sold really well, just not as well as GTA V. The latter really seems like a lightning in a bottle situation.
My entire Fantasy Critic strategy this year was based around GTA6 releasing in 2025, so I'm taking this news harder than most haha.
On a more genuine note, I do believe this series holds such influence over the industry that I want the game to be as good as possible when it launches. I've never been a big GTA fan, but if the success of this game correlates to more people playing games and investing in a medium I care so deeply about, then Rockstar can take all the time they need.
It's why I felt I had to write this. Inside the gaming bubble (a large bubble at that) we know how big this is. But those who don't game didn't really understand what a big deal this is for the entire global industry.
I'm actually not a huge GTA fan either -- have played all of them though. Great, well made games, but not ones I generally go back to.
Only GTA 6 will be able to get away with hitting that price point. I mean, look at the massive backlash Ninty's facing over their $80 USD pricing.
I'd love to see Ubisoft or EA try slapping a $100 USD price sticker on the next Assassin's Creed or annual NFL/FIFA roster update game. They'd get absolutely clowned on. And they would deserve it.
I mean it's been 12 years I figured they thought what's another year of waiting lol

Great article as usual, Harrison.
I'm one of the few who doesn't care about GTA VI.

Love to see Amy featured in this! She's a gem in the marketing community too
I've been looking to feature Amy for a while! This seemed like a good fit, as game hype is very much a marketing thing!

I agree. The key point is, GTA needs to pave the way here, and now that's been delayed by another year. So in a weird way... Huzzah?!
Good guy Rockstar 😂
Geez. Yeah, I never thought of it like that. But... true. Good for consumers at least.
