As hype for the new console leads to sellouts around the world, there's still a rare few places where its readily available. Australia is curiously one of them.
Yeah, US preorders are always a hot mess. I got lucky. I signed up for Nintendo’s waitlist and never got notified (even though I have ~500 hours on BotW, TotK, Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart, and ACNH *each*). And I live in California, so by the time I woke up, preorders at Amazon, Target, Best Buy, etc. had been sold out for hours.
Fortunately, I had the presence of mind to post up at GameStop right before it opened at 11am. I was far from the only one, but an hour later I was finally able to snag a preorder.
If I hadn’t, I’d probably be booking a flight to Sydney as I speak!
That's nuts. Nintendo opened pre-orders here too, and I genuinely didn't get why? There's so much stock left (from what I can see).
I'm often annoyed about how products don't make they way to Australia in a timely manner or in short supply. After talking to Matt, I was actually happy to not be in this dynamic.
I couldn't believe that people in the US have to subscribe to retailer to even get the opportunity to preorder. That's bonkers.
I know there is a general lack of spending among Australians in the lead up to a federal election. So I wonder if that's impacted Switch 2 pre-orders so far, and if they will pick up now that there is a stronger feeling of certainty across the country.
Also, the Switch 2 launching so close to our EOFY may also be a factor.
Great article, though. Would love to see Switch 2 availability heading our tourism campaigns for the next 3-6 months!
